En los últimos cuatro años las problemáticas sanitarias han ido tomando mayor importancia relativa en el rubro forestal, principalmente pero no exclusivamente en las plantaciones de eucalipto. Si bien históricamente se han reportado algunos eventos importantes de ataques de plagas (por ejemplo Phoracantha semipunctata
y P. recurva en eucalipto y Sirex noctilio y Rhyacionia buoliana en pino), no fue hasta el 2007 donde se pudo realmente apreciar el poder destructivo de las problemáticas sanitarias forestales. Fue en dicho año cuando se comenzaron a observar severos ataques de manchas foliares en E. globulus causados mayormente por
Teratosphaeria nubilosa. Luego, el año 2008 fue predominantemente seco y eso favoreció el aumento poblacional de algunas plagas conocidas (como por ejemplo Ctenarytaina eucalypti y Gonipterus spp.) pero a su vez favoreció el aumento poblacional de la chinche del eucalipto (Thaumastocoris peregrinus) que había sido observada por primera vez en Uruguay a fines del 2007. |

ABSTRACT.
Quambalaria eucalypti, a serious pathogen of Eucalyptus, is believed to be native to Australia and introduced into various southern hemisphere countries, including Uruguay. In this study we record the discovery of Q. eucalypti causing leaf lesions on Myrceugenia glaucescens, a tree native to Uruguay. The identity of the pathogen was confirmed using DNA sequence comparisons of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the rDNA operon, as well as morphological characteristics. This is the first record of the pathogen on a host other than Eucalyptus. It clearly indicates a disturbing example of an alien invasive pathogen having undergone a host-shift from non-native Eucalyptus to a native tree in Uruguay.
