"Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apoidea) is the principal honey producer and insect pollinator of crops. Both natural and artificially maintained populations fluctuate considerably due to the ravages of predators, parasites and microbial pathogens. All bees feed almost exclusively on pollen and nectar. Beeswax, provisions, brood
and excreta are rich in nutrients and serve for fungal growth when sufficient moisture is available." |
