RESUMEN.- Amaranthus hybridus (syn: quitensis), conocido como yuyo colorado, es actualmente una de las malezas más importantes en los sistemas agrícolas uruguayos, generando graves pérdidas en la producción de cultivos por su elevada capacidad de competir por recursos como agua, luz y nutrientes. Recientemente, se observaron casos de falla de control después de la aplicación de glifosato, principal herbicida utilizado en su manejo.
El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar el nivel de resistencia a glifosato en los biotipos de A. hybridus colectados en Uruguay con presunta resistencia a glifosato, y analizar la posible presencia de la triple mutación TAP-IVS en el sitio activo de la enzima EPSPS (5-enolpiruvilshiquimato-3-fosfato sintasa) como mecanismo de resistencia. ----- SUMMARY.- Amaranthus hybridus (syn: quitensis), known as smooth pigweed, is currently one of the most important weeds in Uruguayan agricultural systems, generating serious losses in crop production due to its high capacity to compete for resources such as water, light and nutrients. Recently, cases of lack of control have been observed after the application of glyphosate, the main herbicide used in its management. The objective of this work was to determine the level of resistance to glyphosate in the biotypes of A. hybridus collected in Uruguay with presumed resistance to glyphosate, and to analyze the possible presence of the triple mutation TAP-IVS in the active site of the EPSPS enzyme (5enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase) as a resistance mechanism.
