Modern textile tendencies show that consumers prefer light, soft, resistant, natural, and comfortable clothes, for which fine and superfine wools are in great demand, particularly at the high value markets (Whiteley, 2003). The main objective of the present study was to define sustainable stocking rates and grazing systems on native swards for fine and superfine wool production in the Basaltic region of Uruguay. |

Este trabajo tuvo varios objetivos atendiendo las necesidades de las diferentes instituciones involucradas. Los objetivos específicos fueron: 1. Rehabilitación de pastizales en planicies de inundación comprendidas dentro del Área Protegida con Recursos Manejados Montes del Queguay, restituyendo algunos de los servicios ecosistémicos fundamentales del pastizal natural como es la producción de forraje, el hábitat para especies de fauna que utilizan el pastizal y la conservación del suelo y del agua. 2. Validación y divulgación de variedades forrajeras de especies nativas disponibles actualmente en el mercado o que van a estar disponibles a corto plazo. 3. Implementación de una alternativa tecnológica para productores que decidan convertir tierras de uso agrícola a uso pastoril permanente en el tiempo. 4. Implementación de un caso de estudio local en producción sostenible para estudiantes UTU. 5. Promoción de una red de trabajo inter-institucional (INC, SFRCJG, UTU, INIA, COPAGRAN y SNAP) y desarrollo de capacidades para trabajo conjunto buscando lograr los objetivos indicados previamente, para una producción sostenible. |
